2007 Ohio River Sweep

Ohio River Sweep June 16th

The Ohio River needs your help! Volunteers are needed to remove trash and debris from the Ohio River shoreline and riverbank on Saturday, June 16th.  “The River Sweep is a river bank cleanup that extends the entire length of the Ohio River and beyond.  This cleanup encompasses six states and is the largest environmental event of its kind.” states Becky Ploucha, Director of the Clermont 20/20 Clean and Green Program.

Rex Parsons, Chair of the Clean and Green Collaborative, says “ORSANCO, the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission, in partnership with various industries throughout the Ohio River Valley, sponsors the Ohio River Sweep.  In Clermont County the Ohio River Sweep is also sponsored by the Adams- Clermont Solid Waste District and the Office of Environmental Quality.  Last year we had over 357 volunteers that removed 1,048 bags of trash, 165 tires, and other items like refrigerators and washing machines.”

On Saturday, June 16th, volunteers can report to Moscow, New Richmond, Chilo Lock #34, Indian Mound Campgrounds or the Meldahl Lock and Dam to participate.  The event starts at 9:00am.  There will be free t-shirts while they last!  For more information please contact Becky Ploucha at 513-753-9222 or cleanandgreen@clermont2020.org .
