Clean and Green “Spring Cleaning”
Clermont County needs you! The Clermont 20/20 Clean and Green Spring Litter Pickup, Clermont County’s largest annual cleanup, is scheduled for Saturday, April 19th from 9am – Noon. “This is our 10th annual Clean and Green Spring Litter Pickup! Thanks to our community captains and great volunteers, this event continues to grow and have a positive impact on Clermont County. We will have a least 14 different staging areas throughout Clermont County where volunteers can register and pickup safety and litter collection equipment. We will have t-shirts and refreshments for volunteers while they last.” stated Becky Ploucha, Director of the Clermont 20/20 Clean and Green Program. Rex Parsons, Clean and Green Program Chair and member of the Clean and Green Collaborative, adds “It is important that we get the message out that littering is not socially acceptable in Clermont County. It has a negative impact on community and economic development in our cities, towns and villages.”
A Computer Reuse/Recycling event has been added to the Litter Pickup. “This is a great opportunity for any Clermont County resident or business to drop off a computer free of charge that they are no longer using. When possible, used computers are refurbished, the hard drives are erased and soft ware is reloaded. These computers then end up in schools, churches, not for profit organizations and families that ordinary could not afford a computer. Computers that cannot be refurbished and reused are completely recycled and the hard drives crushed. Reusing or recycling computers prevents thousands of pounds of toxic electronic waste from going into our local landfills.” stated Ploucha. Walt Fischer of Cincinnati Computer Cooperative added “Last year 20 percent of donated equipment was sold to schools, nonprofits, students and families for under $100 per computer. As a sponsor of “Crayons to Computers” complete computer systems are given to that organization.”
The Computer Reuse/Recycling component of the Litter Pickup is organized by the Clermont 20/20 Clean and Green Program and the Cincinnati Computer Cooperative. Both organizations would like to thank the Miami Township elected officials and administration for graciously hosting this event.
Computers can be dropped off at the Miami Township Service Department located at 5900 McPicken Drive between 9am and Noon. Please enter off of Meijer Drive, right next to the Dairy Queen. Event organizers would like to thank the Clermont County Board of County Commissioners for their efforts in acquiring a grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources that will help pay for t-shirts and trash bags for the event.
